About
Who we are
We are a group of feminists based in East London, but open to anybody!
We are a local, grassroots group of the Fawcett Society, the UK's leading membership charity campaigning for gender equality and women's rights at work, at home and in public life.
We are all volunteers and work in partnership with their national office, to create a society in which women and girls in all their diversity are equal and truly free to fulfil their potential, creating a stronger, happier, better future for us all.
What we do
We are an enthusiastic, friendly group. We come together through events like our monthly meetings, book club and events to learn, discuss and mobilise to make a positive contribution to the fight for gender equality.
At the moment we are working on a national campaign to End Salary History, as evidence shows that this is a clear, specific action we can take to quickly increase pay for women and people of colour and mitigate the gender pay gap. We are also working on creating a local, East London based project in 2022.
We are always happy to welcome new members!
We strive to provide a safe space
We are committed to maintaining a safe space for all members, new and old. We will
Be welcoming and open to everyone
Treat each other with empathy, respect, and kindness
Respect others' opinions and world view and the diversity of opinions within the fight to make the world a kinder, more equal place
Be mindful of our own potential prejudices and unconscious bias and how our words affect others
Call out any behaviour not in line with those principles and not tolerate or permit discrimination or abuse on any grounds
Join us to promote gender equality
We are always keen to hear from new members and supporters so if you have ideas, questions, a little bit (or a lot) of time and energy please reach out!
