About

Who we are

We are a group of feminists based in East London, but open to everybody!

We are a local, grassroots chapter of the Fawcett Society, the UK's leading membership charity campaigning for gender equality and women's rights at work, at home and in public life.

We currently run a national campaign to End Salary History, as evidence shows that this is a clear, specific action we can take to quickly increase pay for women and people of colour and mitigate the gender pay gap.

We are always happy to welcome new members!

Our Committee

Our active group is run by an enthusiastic and dedicated group of volunteers.

Here is who we are:

Local Group Coordinator Sofia Sá

Our main link to Fawcett HQ, overseeing group strategy, driving membership and expanding our networks. Originally from Portugal, living in East London, Sofia works in HR and enjoys reading, discovering new art exhibitions and spending time with fellow FEL members.

Comms and Marketing – Michaela Popescu

Connects us digitally by planning and creating amazing content & marketing campaigns – including making sure our website and newsletter tell a consistent FEL story. Originally from Romania, when she's not delving into data analysis, Michaela spends her time cycling or eating buns!

Events – Sarah Creurer

Connects us face-to-face, leading our regular flagship FEL events, including feminist bingo, group parties, and fundraising events. Outside of FEL life, Sarah works in sales operations, loves reading (currently in two book clubs), her puppy Willow and cheese!

Campaigns – Naomi Elster, PhD

Works with our incredible campaigning volunteers to close the gender pay gap by ending salary history – keeping the campaign strategy fresh and the group connected to make change happen! Originally from Ireland, where she was part of the pro-choice movement, Naomi works for a medical research charity and loves to write, read, and get out and about in London!

Social – Sofia Sá

Brings the fun by overseeing our socials and club activity – including Book Club, Theatre and Movie Club.

Social Media – Alice Bell

Raises the profile of FEL through our social channels, creating compelling content to increase our visibility and grow our network. Alice works in social research, lives in North London and enjoys rowing with her club in Hackney!

We strive to provide a safe space

We are committed to maintaining a safe space for all members, new and old. We will

Join us to promote gender equality

We are always keen to hear from new members and supporters, so if you have ideas, questions, a little bit (or a lot) of time and energy, please reach out!
